Ruth Gannaway exemplifies the best of volunteering. Meals on Wheels of Albuquerque’s caring volunteer drivers. Ruth is 95 years young and has been volunteering for Meals on Wheels for 31 years. Ruth is a very busy lady, but still finds time to volunteer for Meals on Wheels, driving up to three times a week if asked. Ruth will also take two routes on any given day if a driver is missing, will go back out and deliver meals when clients were not at home, and has even sponsored some clients on the program.
In addition to being one of Meals on Wheels’ outstanding volunteers, Ruth has also volunteered 50 plus years at First Presbyterian Church where she answers phones, coordinates the bulk mail, and maintains the pew pockets. She has also volunteered 50 plus years at Presbyterian Hospital where she volunteers at the information desk and volunteers as a Surgery Hostess. Ruth also sews “Heart Hugging” pillows for by-pass patients and animal pillows for kids having surgery.
