Top Students in New Mexico

Two New Mexican high school students, Trey Caperton and Joliana Davidson, will perform on a Broadway stage this June 25, thanks to the Enchantment Awards. The two students won the Enchantment Awards for Best Actor and Best Actress respectively and now go on to compete in the Jimmy Awards, which are the National High School Musical Theatre Awards. They arrive a week ahead of the awards show to work with Broadway professionals and to learn music and choreography for the performance.

The Jimmy Awards are held on the stage of the Minskoff Theatre in New York, the stage where Disney’s The Lion King is now running. (The Jimmy Awards are held on the one night of the week that The Lion King is not performed.)

Trey and Joliana won the privilege of representing our state in the show when their schools, Albuquerque Academy and Cibola High School, both chose to participate in the New Mexico High School Musical Theatre Awards program. They were adjudicated in their schools and scored for their live performances in the Enchantment Awards show May 5 in Popejoy Hall. Each earned the highest combined scores for their performances.

The Jimmy Awards will be streamed live on social media beginning 7:30pm (EDT) on Monday, June 25, 2018.
