Enrollment begins for complimentary summer school course providing high school students financial skills and elective credit
Nusenda Credit Union, the largest credit union in New Mexico with more than 160,000 member-owners, is announcing a call for summer enrollment for local high school students to take its complimentary financial capabilities course at Del Norte High School between June 6 and 24. Nusenda Credit Union is hosting the financial capabilities course in partnership with Albuquerque Public Schools to provide high school students with financial knowledge, skills, and elective credit towards their graduation.
“At Nusenda Credit Union, we strive to go above and beyond to ensure that all New Mexicans receive a comprehensive financial education,” said Shana Runck, assistant vice president of community relations and financial capability at Nusenda Credit Union. “As one of the most extensive programs of its kind, this financial capabilities program is designed to teach students the importance of managing finances, while giving them the opportunity to put their knowledge into life-changing actions.”
Financial Services Career Exploration Course
Nusenda Credit Union created the nation’s first Common Core-aligned financial capabilities curriculum in the state of New Mexico. The curriculum goes beyond basic financial knowledge by providing students with tools needed to make educated financial choices and positively influence financial behavior. Activities include create financial plans, effectively manage their money, and become knowledgeable financial consumers.
Interested students can register for the course through their school counselor or at the Albuquerque Public Schools City Center, located at 6400 Uptown Blvd., on Saturday, May 28, and June 4 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. To register, the course number is #15017 and the section is DA145.
The financial capabilities summer school course will take place from Monday, June 6 through Friday, June 24 between 7:45 a.m. and 12 p.m. daily. Students who complete this course will receive half an elective credit towards their graduation goals.
