New Youth Golf Clinic

TeamTio-NBIIIF Press ReleaseTeam Tío, a local charity focused on providing access to youth athletics for underserved kids, committed to contribute $15,000 to the Notah Begay III Foundation (NB3F) to sponsor the Team Tío Youth Golf Clinic at the 2015 Rio Grande Charity Slam on June 26th, co-partnered by the Jewish Community Center. In addition to supporting NB3F’s ability to address the profound health and wellness issues impacting Native American children, the clinic will afford local kids an opportunity to learn the game and meet a local sports legend.

Team Tío is a nonprofit endowment fund, managed by the Albuquerque Community Foundation. The fund was created by two Albuquerque brothers, Matt and Ray Rivera, who played little league at Zia and Mile High Little Leagues. Recognizing the value of youth athletics in their lives, they are working to make sure all kids—regardless of their economic situation can get in the game as well.

4-time PGA TOUR winner, current NBC Sports/Golf Channel Analyst and NB3F’s founder, Notah Begay III, said, “I’m grateful to Matt, Ray and Team Tío for recognizing that together we can open the door to more young kids playing golf, while raising critical resources to make sure more kids live healthier lives through sports and wellness.”
The clinic gives 150 New Mexican kids a chance to learn and practice golf with Notah and some of the game’s best coaches. “We are honored to join Notah in his work to
build a healthier community for Native American children, while also helping underprivileged New Mexican kids gain access to athletics and the numerous benefits associated with participation,” says co-founder Matt Rivera.

Team Tío’s mission is to level the economic playing field for youth participating in team sports, encouraging them to build confidence and healthier lives through sports.
Notah Begay III Foundation’s (NB3F) and Team Tío are natural partners, since both organizations’ founders grew up in Albuquerque and share a commitment to developing confident and healthier kids in our community.
