New Executive Director at Learning Alliance NM

The Learning Alliance New Mexico Advisory Board announced Cindy Nava will be its new Executive Director. Ms. Nava brings strong policy, advocacy, research and analysis skills to her new position with Learning Alliance, the statewide organization that engaged more than 4,000 New Mexicans to compile a report about the vision of public education in our state.

“I am thrilled to join the Learning Alliance, as I believe equitable access to education is the gateway to opportunities that shape entire communities and life-long outcomes,” said Ms. Nava. “I look forward to utilizing my experience to continue the growth of the Learning Alliance through direct, collaborative work with districts, communities and leaders across the state. Together, we can provide education access through meaningful, representative and multicultural policies that reflect the diversity of students in our state.”

During the next year, Learning Alliance will be following up on the Every Student Succeeds Act Stakeholder Feedback Report with community-led initiatives that invite that more people, particularly young people, into the work. Ms. Nava will lead efforts toward community-led policy recommendations with her team and alongside educators, families, students and the broader community. Listening to New Mexican interests, values, aspirations, and ideas about public education will be important during this time of transition to the new ESSA Era and to build a path forward with partnering organizations.

“The future of public education is something that we see New Mexicans care deeply about and we are excited to work together to draw upon our strengths to shape a collective path forward with our students, families and communities.” said Kara Bobroff, NACA-Inspired School Network Executive Director and Learning Alliance Advisory Board President. “How can we develop an equitable and relevant education system that respects students and their holistic wellness? We are excited to see local innovations guide the path forward.”

Learning Alliance will formally welcome Ms. Nava to her new role during an event Thursday November 3rd. Please visit www.learningalliancenm.org for more information.
