Heading Home: Buck’s Story

buck 2Albuquerque Heading Home is dedicated to housing individuals who are the most prone to dying on our streets. To date, the collective-impact initiative has housed more than 450 people and their families. Buck is one of those success stories, but his story starts off with a tragedy. When Buck was working as a contractor, he was in a construction accident which rendered him disabled as he suffered from  a Traumatic Brain Injury.

In 2012 Buck was housed in stable, permanent housing, “It was the best thing that has ever happened to me, it really is,” said Buck when talking about his new place. He now volunteers at the La Montanita Co-op, is helping with the Heading Home renovation, he is an avid gardener, and he can often be seen riding his bike around downtown Albuquerque.
