Galloping Grace Youth Ranch Receives $15,000 Grant From PNM Resources’ Power Up Program Grant to be used for the development of a Sustainable Urban Agricultural Education Center for youth to explore the outdoors and enrich the community.
Galloping Grace Youth Ranch (GGYR) has received a $15,000 Power Up Grant from the PNM Resources Foundation. The PNM Power Up Grant program has recently awarded $500,000 to nonprofits to fund projects that will improve the quality of life and help build stronger communities in New Mexico. The grant awarded to GGYR will allow the non-profit to build a Sustainable Urban Agricultural Education Center for the benefit of local youth and the community.
GGYR is a local farm/ranch in Rio Rancho that offers and promotes programs that educate children about farming and sustainable practices through experiences growing crops and raising animals on a working ranch. GGYR’s plans to develop the Sustainable Urban Agricultural Education Center in hopes of contributing to a healthier community by creating a multi-use space that will provide children and families of all ages opportunities to engage in healthy activities in a natural environment.
The grant will be used to fund a nature trail within the Sustainable Urban Agricultural Education Center. Animal pens, educational spaces, and communal places will be located in proximity to the path and will invite a flexible environment where children and families can interact and experience the synergy with animals and nature while playing and learning. The nature trail will also provide a path for exercise and socializing, and sheltered places will allow visitors to rest or participate in educational activities offered at the ranch.
PNM Power Up Grants are awarded to fund projects that build vibrant communities throughout New Mexico. The grant provided to GGYR will get the projected started, but the ranch is still in need of additional support to complete the construction. GGYR is seeking in-kind and financial contributions to complete the $30,000 goal needed to fund the nature trail. In addition, GGYR is looking for volunteers to sit on the planning and development committee for the project. Please contact Tamara Toles, GGYR Board of Directors President, 505-908-0887 mobile or toles.tamra@gmail.com for more information on volunteering with GGYR and this committee.
