Employees Help People with Disabilities Move Forward

img_9533Nearly 90 PNM employees from across the state came together to build wheelchairs for those in need and donated them to Adelante Development Center, Inc., a local non-profit agency that serves over 1,000 New Mexicans with mental, physical, and developmental disabilities.

“We care about the communities we serve,” said Becky Teague, Executive Director of External Affairs. “This event with our good friends from Adelante was a perfect fit for our employees to show how much they care about the customers they serve every day.”

Employees included meter readers, southern New Mexico collections, and staff from regional payment centers. The build was professionally facilitated and, in all, 12 wheelchairs were assembled and given to Adelante’s Back in Use Program. PNM employees also learned about the challenges people with disabilities attempt to work through each and every day through different obstacle courses and simulations.

During the annual PNM Day of Service, 550 employees completed 31 different community projects across the state. Looking ahead – Thursday, April 20 is the 2017 PNM Day of Service.

Since 1999, PNM has given more than $283,000 to Adelante Development Center, Inc., helping to provide quality services and programs to keep people with disabilities moving forward and pushing past social barriers and stereotypes, set goals, and achieve them.
